Abiqua
Abiqua
Abiqua is a basic top-down and seamless pullover that really shows off beautiful yarns. The color block yoke is perfect for a gradient or self-striping yarn. The drop shoulder design and shawl collar makes for an easy, comfortable fit. Wear it longer for a super-comfy relaxed sweater for women! Check out the super cute ladies’ Abiqua pullovers in the test projects.
The body and sleeves are worked in stockinette stitch with chunky ribbing at the cuffs, hem and the shawl collar.
Show off those gradient yarns such as Spin Cycle Dream State shown here in the sample. The main body is worked in Abundant Earth Fiber’s Verdant - a wonderful yarn! This is a great first sweater and is accessible to an adventurous beginning knitter.
Yoke back and front sections are worked back and forth until joined at underarms. Main body is worked in round. Sleeve stitches are picked up at armholes and worked in round. Stitches for collar are picked up at neckline and worked back and forth in ribbing with short rows for shaping.
The instructions are written (with no need for a chart) and the pattern has been professionally tech edited and tested.
INSPIRATION: Abiqua Creek near my hometown of Silverton, Oregon, would be called a river in many places. I have wonderful childhood memories of special times on “the Abiqua.” It was a real treat to go swimming there after a long week of farmwork. There was a pretty cool rope swing and it’s also where I caught my first fish—and where an abandoned fish hook caught me by the foot! This required a trip to the doctor on call….to his garage where he proceeded to set me on the hood of his car to remove the fish hook. This just happened to be Dr. Pettit…who later donated his property to the Oregon Gardens and whose son, Don, was an astronaut on 3 different space explorations. Just a fun bit of trivia for you….
