Tilikum

Tilikum

$8.00

Bridge spans reaching into the sky offer beauty and protection as we cross the waterways of our lives. Tilikum means “people,” “tribe” and “relatives,” in Chinook, the first language of native Oregonians and has come to describe friendly people and friends.

Tilikum showcases a cable motif on the front panel and the slightly dropped sleeves echo the design with cables that flow into the cuff ribbing. Cables are easy to memorize and stitch pattern is repetitive. Once the first set of cables has been established, the following sets are repeats of the same pattern.

Tilikum is worked top-down and seamless and much of the sweater can be worked from the inside to avoid purling. The yoke is worked flat and the body and sleeves are worked in the round.

The body is finished with notched side seams and a flattering longer back hemline. Instructions are included for working from the inside to avoid purling and for working the cables without a cable needle. There are several options to choose from for the neckline finish.

INSPIRATION: Tilikum Crossing, Bridge of the People, is a new cable-stayed bridge spanning the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon. Portland is often called “Bridge City” and “Bridgetown” because 12 bridges cross the Willamette River. Tilikum, the newest bridge, is also the first pedestrian and mass transit-only bridge in the U.S.
